The Skeleton Key Beast is a Pseudo Key Beast.

Pseudo Key Beasts are tricky beasts that offer things that seem too good to be true for adventurers on a quest for the keys by pretending to be sorts of Key Beasts.

The Skeleton Key Beast can appear in most regions. He will try to give you a "skeleton key" that supposedly unlocks all of the key holes at the Key Temple. He states that in addition he will cast a spell on you that keeps away the rumored hallucinations while traveling through The Temples. Of course, none of this is true. The key is a fake (no skeleton key for the Key Temple exists) and the spell actually allows the beast to capture your soul.
